I have worked for an electrical distributor for over two decades. Copper has always been a commodity and we sell a lot of it in the form of wire you use to connect your PC to the power station. Our purchasing managers have had to buy and sell it like Wall Street wizards in order for the company not to take a soaking on margins if prices suddenly fall. And when there is a shortage everyone suffers as prices sky rocket. That's why we keep the cut ends (pieces to short to install in a building, etc.) for times like that, strip them of insulation, and sell the bulk copper recovered back to the suppliers for a tidy profit that offsets the high price. It's like a side business within the overall distributor business.

Love how MSI released like 150 cards for the 40 series but somehow basically all of em are still generic, "fits with everything" aesthetics instead of being unique and legitimately visually interesting (unique colours, cross branding with media franchises, etc)

The price of copper will have almost 0 impact of the price of electronics since the amount of copper in electronics is very small......... Electrical wires though! Those have a LOT more copper in them - and that will effect the price of those.

MSI Radeon cards look exactly like RTX cards. It’s funny they only made 4 when that’s really all they need to make for both RX and RTX. The fact they made 147 of some of the ugliest cards this generation is hilarious. Sorry if you like MSI, but the majority of their GPUs look like they were designed by a 6 year old.

NVIDIA is speedrunning their rise to ultimate power and fall because they used one-up keynotes to discuss AI instead of consumer products. Particularly at a time when AI is stealing data and work left and right, and having 0 checks and balances. They desperately need to move on from the 12VHPWR connector (to the disgruntlement of PSU manufacturers that just made the swap) and get their pricing back in line, or their time in the consumer market is coming to a close.

Debating if should buy a 5080 before upgrading the rest of my aging rig which has an AMD 3700X and 3070 or wait and upgrade all other components and then upgrade GPU when stock of 5000 series will be more attainable

Broadwell-E was the peak of computing so I can understand the slip up. It's just a shame that the same people who flamed Intel for the $1700 i7-6950x now cheer the fact that consumer socket boards cost as much as those X99 motherboards and the high tiers of the consumer socket chips now cost as much as the entry level X99 chips - yet they are not flaming paying for HEDT without getting the HEDT features and telling people like me that want the HEDT features they're already paying for that we should have no problem paying $1700+ for just the motherboard and CPU. No, frick you guys.

I built a mid ATX with the same GPU and a Ryzen 9 7950x, AND got an IPS 1440p/180hz .03ms refresh monitor for the same price. Will post a vid when my parts are actually in hand. All are otw so I'll be posting my unboxing and build soonish! Edit: already had mouse n keyboard so didn't factor those.
